Influence

At WELA, our advocacy work is built on the intersectional challenges faced by women and gender-diverse people in Australia.

We recognise that the same systems of power driving degradation of our environment and climate are also fueling racial injustice, colonial dispossession, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism. Through our research and submissions we aim to challenge and transform existing systems, structures, policies and practices in Australia in order to create the conditions that:

  1. Place women and gender-diverse people’s needs and approaches at the centre of action for our climate and environment; and
  2. Recognise and elevate women and gender-diverse people’s voices and leadership in creating solutions for our climate and environment.

Our work prioritises and amplifies the voices of women and gender-diverse individuals, particularly First Nations women, whose experiences and intersectional leadership are often the least recognised, elevated and resourced.

Explore how we’re making a difference through our research, submissions, and ways you can take action:

Our research is focused on understanding and addressing the systemic barriers that women and gender diverse people face in creating a better future for our climate and environment.

We contribute to policy discussions by submitting recommendations that advocate for the rights and needs of those most affected by intersecting inequalities.

Join us in advocating for systemic change by taking action on key issues that will lead to climate and gender just outcomes for women and gender-diverse people.

A national network connecting influential women and gender-diverse leaders across sectors driving action for climate, nature, and just transitions.
