WELA Conservation Leadership Intensive in Lutruwita/Tasmania 2026

WELA Conservation Leadership Intensive in Lutruwita/Tasmania

In partnership with the Tasmanian Land Conservancy (TLC) and made possible with the generous support of the Graeme Wood Foundation and private donors.

Join a connected community of women and gender-diverse changemakers shaping the future of conservation leadership across Lutruwita/Tasmania.

Lutruwita/Tasmania is one of the most biologically rich and contested regions on the planet. Conservation leaders are navigating increasing pressure, fragmentation, and isolation. Unprecedented rates of burnout, threats to our democracy, and growing division across communities, generations, and sectors are challenges that require us to reimagine leadership.

This leadership intensive will create the space to pause, reconnect, and strengthen the relationships, resilience, and collective capacity needed to lead through increasing complexity.

The program supports emerging and established leaders to deepen their impact across the region.

“I didn't know how much I needed the WELA Intensive until I was there. The training and connections were invaluable and have set me up with a genuine confidence to empower others to step up for a safer climate. It turns out that we are the women we have been waiting for.”

Our moment, our responsibility

We are living through an era of accelerating change. Climate disruption, biodiversity loss, rising inequality, and political polarisation are converging in complex and compounding ways. This polycrisis is not abstract — it is being felt in our communities, landscapes, organisations, and movements.

And yet, this moment also holds immense possibility.

Across Lutruwita, women and gender-diverse leaders are organising collectively, questioning dominant narratives, and creating ways to lead that are grounded in care for Country and future generations. There is a growing recognition that technical solutions alone are not enough. We need courageous and deeply connected leadership.

The WELA Conservation Leadership Intensive in Lutruwita/Tasmania, designed by and for women and gender-diverse changemakers, rises to meet this moment.

Building on the relationships and shared leadership that emerged through the inaugural Lutruwita/Tasmania Intensive in 2025, this second program returns to strengthen networks, bridge across groups, and deepen collective leadership across Lutruwita/Tasmania.

Through shared learning, honest conversations, and time on Country, participants are supported to lead through uncertainty with clarity, support and confidence, and to help shape a more just future for conservation in Lutruwita/Tasmania.

What to expect

This four day intensive will:

  • Reignite your inspiration and resilience, so you feel grounded, supported, and sustained — not isolated — in your leadership.
  • Foster deep, trust-based connections, build a powerful network of conservation leaders who learn and support one another.
  • Strengthen regional conservation leadership, building bridges across communities, generations, movements, and organisations to support greater collective action.
  • Equip you with the tools, confidence, and influence to lead boldly through complexity and contribute to meaningful, place-based conservation outcomes.

Join us to be part of a growing movement shaping the future of conservation leadership in Lutruwita/Tasmania.
